Elmcrest College of Applied Health Sciences & Spa Management is owned and operated by the same company that owns and operates Canada’s favourite day spa, The Elmwood Spa, for more than twenty years.

The Elmwood Spa is Canada’s largest and best loved urban day spa.  When The Elmwood Spa opened its doors in downtown Toronto in 1982, the spa industry in Canada was in its infancy and skepticism prevailed about what kind of future was in store for such a concept. Though visiting a spa had long been accepted practice in Europe and elsewhere in the world, North America was late to embrace what was then perceived as an indulgence rather than a necessity. Conservative Torontonians placed less importance than they do today on the value of face and body rejuvenation treatments to promote wellness and beauty. Only a couple of spas operated in Toronto then, serving a limited market.

The Elmwood Spa pioneered the European-style Day Spa business in Toronto, clearing the way for numerous followers and imitators. In many ways The Elmwood Spa sets the bar for spa standards in Southern Ontario, specifically in terms of the spa environment, customer service and amenities, and product & service quality. In the Spring of 2003, The Elmwood Spa opened a second day spa, elmspa, located at 557 Church Street (Just north of Wellesley).  This spa serves a dual purpose – during the first half of the week (Monday through Wednesday), the spa can be used by the students from all faculties of Elmcrest College to try out their course content in a practical environment – giving services to each other and others during student clinics.  On Thursday through Saturday, elmspa is open to the public using licensed practitioners from The Elmwood Spa.  Please visit the website at www.elmspa.ca.
